Giant Bone from Widow Fischer’s Quarry, one of Gary Gresl’s more significant sculptures
is displayed near the New Book area and audiovisual collection. The Public Library’s Art Committee
approved to accept Mr. Gresl’s generous donation in 2009.
About the Artist
Gary John Gresl, a native of Manitowoc, has been featured in exhibitions throughout
Wisconsin and the Midwest. He has received numerous awards for his work, including
multiple ‘best in show’ awards and jurors’ selections. Recently he was a
Kohler Arts and Industry artist in residence through the Kohler Center for the Arts, Sheboygan,
received a Mary Nohl Artist Fellowship and a 2009 Wisconsin Visual Art Lifetime Achievement Award.
He was the founder and former co-chair of the Wisconsin Visual Art Lifetime Achievement Awards,
a three term president of Wisconsin Visual Artists, Inc., as well as one of the co-founders of
the Milwaukee Visual Arts Roundtable. He received a Master’s degree from UW-Madison, had a
career as an antique dealer and specialized in directions and techniques of assemblage sculpture.
